Nothing fishy about this

How would you like to place your feet in a tank filled with 200 or more odd fish, just so that they can bite at you? No, this is not a joke or a Fear Factor task. It is a one-of-a-kind pedicure offered at the Naturals beauty saloon.

Garra Rufa a.k.a Doctor fish are toothless and have a crescent shaped mouth that nibbles the dead skin. Five cm long, these fish feed on the dead skin making it healthy and clean. Once you place your feet in the tank all the fish nibble your skin at a time giving a mild electric sensation. The initial pleasant sensation and relaxation of “micro-massage” is replaced by a tingling sensation over the skin.

It is fun to watch the doctors at work, pale white in colour with orange gills and mouth, the doctor fish chew the dead skin slowly moving sideways. Some even play in between your fingers. The 20 minutes session with these doctors help to regulate the blood circulation in the feet.

Like any other fish, they are kept in a clean tank. Apart from dead skin being their food they are given the regular fish food once a day.

Naturals have brought this unique concept of pedicure 1st time in India with Chennai being the first city. The fish are imported from Singapore paying Rs two thousand for two hundred fishes.

More than 100 customers have taken this treatment and some keep coming back again for it. These doctors have celebrity clients such as Gauthami, Madan Babu to name a few. Right now fish pedicure is available in the Naturals outlet at Indira Nagar, Anna Nagar and Spencer. It is also available in Pondicherry and Coimbatore outlets of Naturals. To get one for yourself, you will have to pay an amount of Rs. 400.
