One big happy family: Vaazhthugal
By Abirami Muthukrishnan
From the grim and gritty Evano Oruvan , Madhavan has turned to big-family-happily-ever-after fluff with Vaazthugal. The film will have crying parents, senti siblings, probably hordes of aunts and uncles and enough mischievous imps to fill a schoolroom.
The central storyline is love, obviously. Software company owner dude Maddy and agricultural student Bhavana fall in love and this love story becomes the vehicle for director Seeman to revisit ancient times when the joint family ruled roost. ‘Love thy neighbour as you love yourself’ and ‘one who doesn’t take care of his parents can’t really take care of anyone else’ are the film’s deep-thought-inducing themes.
Screenplay and score
In spite of its antiquated storyline, the film might merit a watch because of the Seeman-Madhavan team, whose earlier movie Thambi was praised for its clear story, conceptualisation and fitting screenplay. B.L. Sanjay’s cinematography, Yuvan’s music and Na. Muthukumar’s flowing lyrics are also a great plus. If the team deliver as it promises, this movie might just be worth the cost of a trip to the theatre. The movie releases on January 12.
