Green Offices campaign launched

It’s environment month and there could have been no better time to campaign for a green earth. Chennai-based Quintegra Solutions, a global IT services and consulting company, decided to go green and spread awareness through a 15 km cycle rally from the ECR toll gate. Nothing works without an incentive, so the company awarded gifts to those who cycle to office as well.

“If the temperature of the earth goes up by even 1.5 degrees, the sea level will increase by 13 meters. This will submerge half of Chennai. As I understand it, if we do not reverse the global warming by 2015, it will be too late. That is only seven years away. For the sake of our children, we need to act now,” said Shankarraman Vaidyanathan, Chairman of Quintergra, in a release.

The company has also taken other green steps by encouraging its employees to get more sensitive to environmental concerns. Keeping in mind, the threat of plastic waste, it has stopped the usage of plastic cups and has provided personalised cups. “It costs Rs. 172, 000 to process and recycle 1000 kg of plastic,” said Sriram Narasimhan, Senior Vice-President.

The company has also declared the last Friday of every month as “no parking day”, where each employee is encouraged to use public transport to work. In turn they would use the parking space for a corporate function like Quintergra Rock Band or an all-day employees’ family fair.

Apart from this, they would also allow parking of only those vehicles that have a pollution-free certificate. Quintegras has also teamed up with several petrol pumps to provide subsidised pollution checks.
